I photograph corporate headshots on-site in Amsterdam and throughout the Netherlands with a mobile studio set up at your office. Each employee is scheduled for about 15 minutes. During the session, images are shown immediately and the employee selects their preferred photo on the spot. The final result is sent directly to the employee, with any adjustments easily coordinated. This way, the time investment for HR and Marketing is minimal, while employee satisfaction remains high.

STEP-BY-STEP WORKFLOW FOR COMPANY PORTRAITS

We start with a short intake about the goal, look & feel and the scope of the project. We answer, among other things:

  • How large is the team?

  • How many images per person are desired?

  • Where and (roughly) when will the shoot take place?

  • Which background will we use (seamless coloured paper / brand colours)?

  • Do images need to be delivered as cut-outs (transparent background)?

  • What level of retouching is required?

  • Do’s & don’ts for poses (what fits your brand)?

Outcome: a clear scope, planning and style agreements that fit your brand.

Prepping is essential to keep the shoot day smooth. This includes:

  • Location check at the office to determine the best setup.

  • Aligning shoot days and internal communications.

  • Online scheduling so employees can reserve their own time slot.

  • A preparation email for all participants with a brief overview and practical clothing tips.

Outcome: everyone knows what to expect; minimal workload for HR/Comms.

On the day, team members enter the (mobile) studio one by one.

If portraits were made previously by another photographer, I’ll match the look and feel as closely as possible. In most cases I can see from existing images which techniques were used. By discussing and testing we achieve the match.
For new portraits I always document the techniques used. I leave the used backdrops/colours in the office (storage), so we have the correct backdrop at hand for follow-up shoots with new employees.

Yes, gladly. Especially for large productions with a strict brand book, I like to do test shoots on location. It’s useful for quality, and you also get a good feel for my way of working and whether there’s a good ‘click’.

A company licence for internal use, website and socials; passing images on to third parties is possible by arrangement with an additional licence. I never transfer intellectual property and remain the owner of the images. More detailed information about rights and licences can be found in the general terms and conditions.

Absolutely. I think it’s important to deliver images the way you want them. With the correct filename. A common request is something like: “firstname-lastname-number-company-abel-ponger-fotografie.jpg”. I can also fill IPTC/XMP fields to your specs. For your own SEO I can add ALT texts and Keywords to the images.

I don’t find it a big problem, but I prefer to do it myself. Converting to black & white shouldn’t be underestimated; a standard conversion won’t give the best result. I’m happy to deliver both colour and black-and-white versions.

  • Basic correction = standard on all images. It’s fast and high quality. These are all edits possible in Adobe Camera RAW: contrast/colour/cropping and removing small blemishes/imperfections. For company portraits this is the smartest choice in terms of price/quality.

  • Retouching = using the pen in Photoshop to make the image “perfect”. It’s a slower process but yields the highest quality: full skin work, iris/eyes, hair and lips. Often requested for images that will be printed to a high standard (exhibitions, prominent magazines).

  • Cut-out = background removed (PNG/TIFF). Please indicate this in advance so I can set lighting accordingly (extra white background).

Glasses reflections are prevented by repositioning the face or lights so the flash isn’t visible in the lenses. Repositioning lights is only possible in rooms of adequate size. The level of reflection (and colour cast) differs per pair of glasses. Where necessary I retouch reflections in Photoshop.
Skin shine (hotspots) is prevented by using very soft light (large umbrellas). It’s also important that employees don’t apply oily creams. The best result is achieved with an optional Hair & Make-up artist, who monitors the images on screen and can touch up shine immediately.

It’s possible, but preferably not. Headshots and environmental portraits require a different approach, with different lighting and settings. Switching between them costs time. If both must be done on one day, I prefer to shoot all headshots first and then the environmental portraits (or vice versa, depending on available daylight).
Of course we can combine them if employee availability is limited.

A quiet/closed room of at least 3×5 m with a ceiling height of approx. 3 metres. Bigger is always better for portrait photography! Slightly smaller is possible, but it will affect quality and experience (light bouncing and a cramped feel).
If Hair & Make-up is booked, it’s important we can work together in one room. This matters for giving each other continuous feedback.
Power is available

No-shows are not a problem and are not charged. If a new day must be scheduled because of no-shows, studio setup and breakdown (plus travel costs) will be charged.

Yes, by arrangement. Please ensure the employee is also willing. Any surcharges are communicated in advance.

In principle, all of Europe. I speak Dutch, English and Spanish. My base is Amsterdam.

Certainly. We’ll plan which day I’m at which location. Employees then have more freedom to choose where they come. It’s advisable to schedule locations consecutively rather than interleaved—first location 1, then 2, etc. This way I only need to set up and break down the studio once per location, which saves time (costs)
